On Sunday, September 13 the SaddleBrooke Singers will begin rehearsals for their holiday concert this year entitled A Classic Christmas Holiday. This group, consisting of SaddleBrooke residents and directed by Dr. Linda Griffin, is preparing a program that they hope will bring back fond memories of your own favorite Christmases. The list of songs includes many of the classic Christmas numbers that you have come to expect from this talented group of singers plus some contemporary songs that have become season standards. And of course, what would a holiday program be without a few sing-a-longs of your favorite Christmas carols?
This season will be especially poignant for our members since it will be the final season for Dr. Griffin as Director. She will be retiring from the position at the end of 2015 after ten years as the musical leader of the group. In her tenure, the group has grown tremendously in their musical ability and in the quality and content of their performances. (A search is now underway for a new director beginning in 2016. The SaddleBrooke Singers began forming in the fall of 1993 and presented their first concert in March of 1994. Shirley Griffin was the driving force behind the establishment of this group and is still singing with us today, twenty-two years later. Through the years a few hundred people have been members and the current membership is around sixty singers, but we could easily use a dozen more! We rehearse from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday nights at the HOA 1 Activity Center for twelve weeks leading up to each concert, this year beginning on September 13 for the Christmas Concert on December 4 and 6.
