The final event of this season’s Pima Cup schedule was hosted by the MPMGA at The Preserve Golf Club on May 4. The weather and course conditions were perfect and every player in the field had nothing but the highest of expectations. The champion would be determined today and when play began there were three teams with a legitimate chance for glory—La Paloma, Ventana Canyon and SaddleBrooke HOA2. Can you feel the tension?
The MPMGA drew as its opponent for the day the team from the La Paloma Country Club, the leader going into the final round. Mark Hojnacki and Bruce Fink, our A team, played the team of Ron Welch and Brian Cardno. Our B team, Tony Blunt and Ron Kerr, played against Cary Marmis and Andy Watson. Our C team was Jack Hammer and Mike Harris and their match was against the team of Russ Petro and Steve Lyders. All of our players battled fiercely and teams A and B each won their matches. Unfortunately the final point count showed La Paloma winning by one point—(27 ½) to (26 ½). Thanks to all who played so well and brought our team so close to victory. Great golf, gentlemen, and hopefully all of our players who represented the MPMGA in this season’s competitions will enjoy this final tidbit of information. Overall you finished third in the standings just 3 points out of second place and better yet only 3 ½ points out of first. Can’t wait for the next season!
