Congratulations to SaddleBrooke’s own Mike Levy who made the esteemed Barry Crane Top 500 list of Bridge players from around the United States.

At the February weekly duplicate games on Tuesday and Friday afternoon, repeat winners were Steve Maltzman and Donna DePesa, Arlene and Jack Mayfield, Eric Vonderheid with Bob Brussel, Bob Murray and Bob Saner, Dick Quigg and Ann Kuperberg as well as Tom Baker, Bonnie and Bob Hertzog, Michelle Werley with JoAnn Aiken, Marie Heald and Sue Hagerty, Marian Rogge with Vicki Hanson, JoAnn Aiken and Mindy Hawkins, Jim and Terry Coe. Other players also received points throughout the month.

Playing Duplicate Bridge at Desert View really prepares players for tough competition at tournaments such as one in Chandler from April 3 to 9.

Here’s some more advice from The Bridge Bulletin contributor Mel Colchamiro:

“It Ain’t Necessarily So.”

“You shouldn’t open a weak two-bid with a void in a side suit.” Mel says it might be difficult to reach a playable spot in the other suits. Then again, he also says you lose the obstructive power of a preempt.

Another tip by Marty Bergen from his “21 rules of being a good partner” is:

“Remember you and your partner are on the same side!”
