Wednesday, October 19 – Coppola Family of Wines

Tonight, instead of the usual Coppola wine dinner, we will be featuring wines from their family of wines. When Francis Ford Coppola, who bought the former Geyser Peak Winery in Geyserville, California disclosed the new name of the facility, a venerable name returned to the business; Virginia Dare. “The myth of Virginia Dare always intrigued me,” said the legendary screenwriter and director, who also owns the nearby Francis Ford Coppola Winery. His Virginia Dare Winery plans to release its flagship wines—Virginia Dare Chardonnay and Virginia Dare Pinot Noir, both from the Russian River Valley.

Start this intriguing evening at 5:30 p.m. with passed appetizers and Virginia Dare Chardonnay.

First Course: Pancetta crusted sea scallops with roasted butternut squash puree, chive oil and fresh sage.

Two Arrowheads Viognier

Two Arrowheads takes us back to the forest and the hunt for the mythical White Doe. Many believe the survivors of the mysterious Lost Colony of Roanoke found shelter with the nearby Croatoan tribe, led by Manteo. Among them may have been Virginia Dare, the first child of English descent born in the New World. The girl grew into a beautiful woman; she loved a young warrior named Okisko, but a jealous suitor put a spell on her. As legend has it, the fair maiden was transformed into a snow-white deer.

Second course: Smoked maple leaf duck breast over butter lettuce with grilled red onions, sliced chevre cheese and toasted pumpkin seeds with cherry vinaigrette.

Virginia Dare Pinot Noir

Third course: Slow roasted beef strip loin, sliced and served with a date-red wine reduction, house smoked blue cheese smashed potatoes and garlic sautéed Swiss chard.

Archimedes Red Blend

The discoveries of the Greek mathematician Archimedes nearly 2,000 years ago established laws of physics still viable today. Francis Coppola’s grandfather Agostino so greatly admired the intellect and ingenuity of the mathematician that he gave his first son the same name. Now, in honor of his Uncle Archimedes, Francis Ford Coppola is proud to announce the debut release of this new flagship wine – Archimedes.

Fourth course: Espresso and chocolate budino with raspberry whipped cream

Pit∆gor∆

When Francis Ford Coppola’s grandfather, Agostino, was a child growing up in the small town of Bernalda in Southern Italy, he often played among ancient Greek ruins in nearby Metaponto where thousands of years earlier stood a school run by the legendary Greek scholar Pythagoras — Pitagora in Italian. Known today for his mathematical theorem (a2 + b2 = c2), Pythagoras was more than a mathematician; he was a philosopher who sought new ways of understanding the world through mathematics, astronomy and music theory.

Joining us this evening will be Emilie Bain from Young’s Market and Ashley Conley from Coppola Winery. Tickets are $75 inclusive of food, wine, tax and gratuity. Gourmet dinner only is $55 inclusive of food, tax and gratuity. Wine dinner tickets will be limited to 90 and go on sale August 31 at 9:00 a.m. in the SaddleBrooke Clubhouse foyer.
