Democratic Club news

We had a very full program for the June 14 meeting of the SaddleBrooke Democratic Club. The meeting included the introduction of three new Democratic candidates for the upcoming primaries in August and ultimately the General Election this November. We had two candidates vying for Pinal County Sheriff, Kaye Dickson and Kevin Taylor. And, we were introduced to Miguel Olivas who is running in the primary against Tom O’Halleran to be the Democratic candidate to fill Ann Kirkpatrick’s seat.

Our guest speaker at our meeting was John Abraham, the Arizona Affiliate Coordinator for the Final Exit Network. John made a detailed presentation on the goals and objectives of the Final Exit Network. He outlined the need for the public to be better informed on their rights and options with respect to a dignified death. He talked about the effectiveness and the pitfalls of Health Care Directives and the need for an advocate to be certain that the wishes of the infirm are carried out as directed.

He also outlined the services provided by FEN to those wishing to end their life in a humane and dignified manner. While not encouraging one to end one’s life prematurely, they are available to provide education and coaching assistance should a person qualify and so desire. It was an educational session, providing information about options a person might consider in the future.

The guest speaker at our July 11 meeting will be Steve Farley, State Senator from District 9. Steve is the Assistant Minority Leader in the State Senate. He is a staunch supporter of Tucson and its community. We can count on him to provide an informative analysis of the Arizona legislative session which just ended. You won’t want to miss this.

Each regular monthly meeting of the SaddleBrooke Democratic Club is held on the second Tuesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. in the HOA 1 Activity Center, 64518 East Galveston Lane, SaddleBrooke, Arizona 85739.
