As always, winter has been very kind to the Sputters as we have been able to putt almost every Monday. However, on a blustery Monday, March 2, the Sputters played host to the MountainView Lady Putters and, while we could only play nine holes, we had a great time, laughed a lot, shivered a bit and looked forward to the warmth of The Vistas. The fireplace was ablaze and once again HOA1 Food & Beverage did a wonderful job with a delicious lunch all set in a St. Patrick’s Day green backdrop.

Our sincerest thanks to Joan Chorost and her very hard working committee of Sheila Abraham, Sylvia Bonesky, Pat Chase, Chris McFadden, Sharon Powers and Thera Reed for another outstanding event. Prizes were plentiful as six teams were winners. First place team members were Ruth Catalinotto, Gail Crawford, Lenny Hillis, Ginny Schoeph, Irene Somes and Vicki Strief. There was a tie for second place between Team 7~Donna Gruninger, Nancy Kendall, Colleen Merrill, Caroline Morrison, Caroline Rolfe and Cathy Scott and Team 12~Mary Ann Cram, Judy Gross, Marcia Munich, Marilyn Palatas and Pat Schweighardt. Third place went to Ann Christofani, Jan Kasper, Carole Priestley and Fira Stout with fourth to Linda Malone, Dorie Pipers, Sue Rains, Wanda Schultz, Jan Talbot and Rosemary Topper. Last, but certainly not least, the team with the highest score and thus winning a prize for working the hardest was Bonnie Cook, Diane Fries, Ginny Jackson, Thera Reed and Maude Ruffin. Five ladies proved the wind was not going to ruin their game as Sheila Abraham, Linda Carr, Ruth Catalinotto, Faith Holt and Caroline Rolfe each had two holes-in-one.

As always, a good time was had by all and the Lady Putters have already issued a reciprocal invitation to be their guests next March. A very important part of the Sputters organization is the friendships we build and, therefore, we look forward to getting together again next year. Just one request, however, would be for the warm and sunny weather we are so fortunate to enjoy most of the time.

The Sputters Fun Day Committee chaired by Diana Carbone has chosen a Hawaiian theme and all are hard at work planning an always entertaining morning of putting and a special lunch meeting in The Vistas. Next month’s Sputters article will detail what is sure to be one of the highlights of our year as we wind down toward the end of the 2014/2015 season on April 30. Since the first of this year alone we have been blessed to welcome 10 new members: Maggie DeBlock, Noreen Fabinski, Penny Fullenkamp, Joyce Heeter, Jan Kasper, Carol Kochiss, Linda Pomeroy, Debbie Melcher, JoLynn Summy and Helene Wheeler.

The Verde Sputters putt Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the HOA1 green. Membership is open to any resident of HOA1, 2 and the Preserve not belonging to a sanctioned SaddleBrooke golf group. For more information please contact Trudy Rossi at 225-0275 or Wanda Schultz at 825-5552.
