Tucson Troop Support – June 2014

George Bidwell

Last year the STS donated approximately $35,000 worth of materials and food to military personnel and their families. Now that troops are returning with many not able to find employment, the need is greater for us to supply more food to the Military Food Bank. Your monetary, food and clothing donations make it possible for us to continue supplying the basic needs to the military families.

Future events we are sponsoring to help us raise funds are a dinner dance on October 25, a lunch and dinner at Chili’s wherein 15% of the meal cost will be given to STS (date is TBD), a golf tournament on September 13 and a luncheon with guest speakers early next year.

The SaddleBrooke Troop Support is looking for someone to handle the publicity for the group and another person to help with the Military Food Bank. Please come forward and help us with our mission.

We have good news relating to the Military Lounge at the Tucson Airport. A couple of futons were donated to replace some of the most well-worn couches that were in very bad shape. Some other furniture is also in need of replacement. Are there any extra futons out there?

A recent letter we received is testimony to the good that we do. To paraphrase: Our child was born on July 6, 2013, and weighed seven pounds four ounces and was 21 inches long. Daddy was a witness to his birth, not in person but by Skype, and was blessed to watch the whole labor and delivery.

We received the layette from your support group and Noah was excited to get such wonderful gifts (as well as Mom and Dad). This family would like to thank you for the wonderful support you are giving to the troops and their families. It is great to know that there are organizations like yours that continue to be a blessing for military families.

Receiving a letter like this makes it all worthwhile.
