The Latin Rhythm Dance Club is in its thirteenth year of providing professional level instruction in authentic Latin dance styles for SaddleBrooke residents. This season’s classes feature the hottest Latin dances, including Cumbia, Mambo and Salsa.
Free Latin Dance Classes
Free Monday Basic Dance Classes meet in SaddleBrooke One’s Vermilion Room Mondays from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., except for the second Monday of each month (Bingo Day). Our classes are open to all residents of SaddleBrooke and are taught by long time SaddleBrooke residents Jeanny and Wally Mara. Step sheets covering the day’s dance patterns will be provided.
Latin Club Dances are September 17, 24 and October 1; Old and New Latin Club Dances: Bossa Nova, Kizomba and Milonga.
Cumbia is October 15, 22, 29 and November 3; The first and most popular Latin fast dance.
Mambo is November 19, 26 and December 3; Cuba’s original Latin fast dance on which Salsa is based.
Intermediate Dance Patterns Workshops are generally for those with previous dance experience. They meet Thursday mornings from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the Vermilion Room. Enrollment is limited to 12, so please reserve your spot before the class meets! For each class, a fee of $5 per couple includes step sheets and a practice music CD.
Nightclub Two Step is September 6, 13, 20, 27; The American all-purpose slow dance with Latin dance steps.
Salsa Patterns is October 4, 11, 18, 25; Continuing from the basics with intriguing intermediate Salsa patterns
Quickstep is November 1, 8, 15, 29; A favorite ballroom fast dance with loads of action.
By Request will be December 13, 20, 27 (if available); Name the Latin dance you want to work on.
NOTE: Latin dancing is vigorous and aerobic and is good for seniors’ body, mind and balance. Be sure your doctor approves!
Learn to Dance DVDs
Learn Latin dances at home! Each of our dance classes is videoed by our talented Member/Videographer Carol Newhouse. At the end of each course, Carol converts her video clips into instructional DVDs, which are available for $10 per DVD. Coming August 22, Hot August Nights No. 7 at SaddleBrooke One
Yes, for the seventh summer we are providing the entertainment for the dinner dance event of the summer. Chef Dave’s famous food offerings and the best dance music in SaddleBrooke plus our ’60-’70s music trivia game make for a perfect summer evening. Since this is a SaddleBrooke One event, to attend you must make dinner reservations by calling 825-3048 x100 or 825-1885.
