The SBWGA keeps it cool

Ret Convey

Our northern buddies look in horror at the 100+ temperatures here in Arizona and wonder how we can stand it. They see us draped in ice bags and neck coolers while wearing SPF 2000 hats and ask why we don’t just stay in the comfort of our A.C. all day. The obvious reason is because no one has built an indoor, air-conditioned golf course—yet!

The blazing sun and a quickly rising thermometer didn’t stop 64 ladies from icing up and heading next door to play in the third and final leg of the Home, Home & Home tournament on June 19. As it turned out, pleasant morning temperatures combined with the spirit of fun and camaraderie to keep the event especially comfortable and immensely enjoyable.

We thank MVPWGA for a great time and wish all our sisters from MountainView/Preserve and SaddleBrooke Ranch a wonderful summer and look forward to our reunion next year!

Congratulations go to the winning team of Gaye Ohanian, Cookie Kaplan, Patti Prati and Jenni Long.

In other news, the Red/Aqua tee boxes made their official Play-day debut on Tuesday, June 9. The ladies sampled the new boxes in a friendly, competitive Middle-Nine game and now have a feel for what to expect before making their tee selection for the 2019 season.

Our June Aces, Maire Ryan (gross 82) and Marie Kahng (net 64), showed us what it means to keep cool in the heat of the battle, and we send them big congratulations for their victories!
