Each year, the Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke recognizes an area teacher for excellence in teaching. As the 2020 school year came to a close, area principals recommended a teacher from their school for this honor. Due to COVID-19, we were unable to honor our teacher of the year until school resumed in August.

This year’s Teacher of the Year is Margaret Schofield of the Mammoth-San Manuel Unified School District. Margaret came to this school district as a chemist. She began her work with this district as a director of IT, and then began teaching in 2008. In addition to teaching advanced math and science, Mrs. Schofield also teaches photography and is the yearbook advisor. She sponsors several clubs, runs the scoreboard at games, is the first to arrive at school, and the last one to leave school. When COVID-19 caused schools to shut down, Mrs. Schofield led the way for teachers and students to learn online. She created Google accounts for every student and helped other teachers learn how to digitize lessons and navigate the online learning environment. It is with great pride that the Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke names Margaret Schofield, a teacher dedicated to the students, her fellow educators, and to the school, as our 2020 Teacher of the Year.

This is just one of many local and global projects of our Rotary Club. The Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke also delivers books to students in the Copper Corridor, packs food for the food bank, and provides clean drinking water for 24,000 students in Nogales, Sonora, MX. Our Fore For Kids Charity Golf Tournament funds scholarships for area students and a number of local programs for children and youth. This is just the beginning of a long list of service projects our members do to make a difference near and far. But the best part of all these projects is the time we spend together as friends as we plan and implement these good works.

The Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke is not only an award-winning organization devoted to making a difference locally and globally, it is also a club that enjoys coming together for lifelong learning. We have interesting programs on a variety of topics each Thursday at noon. Normally, we meet weekly over lunch at The SaddleBrooke One Clubhouse. Currently, we meet weekly on Zoom each Thursday from our homes.

The Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke is open to anyone who is living or working in SaddleBrooke, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Oracle, Catalina, Oro Valley, and all surrounding communities. If this sounds like something of interest to you, come join us for lunch on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. when we resume meeting at SaddleBrooke One Clubhouse, and meet our friendly members. While we hold our meetings on Zoom, you are welcome to visit our meetings. For more information, contact Wendy Guyton at 520-404-5712 or [email protected].
