Tai Chi student promotions

Carol Emerson

Ken and I are happy to announce the recent promotions of eight of our students! They have all worked extremely hard and we are very proud of their accomplishments.

Pictured left to right: Carol Emerson Shifu, purple belt Lynda Green, white belt Larry Fahrney, purple belt Joyce Schneider, white belts Patrice Passer, Marsha Bellsey, Doris Clark and Doug Armstrong. Pat Maurer, (not pictured) was also promoted to green belt. Pat also holds the rank of brown belt in Okinawan Karate and yellow belt in Aikido.

Rank testing, which is a hallmark of traditional hard styles such as Karate, is becoming more common in schools that teach the Internal Martial Arts of Tai Chi, Hsing-I and BaGua. The Ching Yi Kung Fu Association, to which we belong, has made this an option for students since the mid-1970s. Formal ranking acknowledges the progress of the student and provides incentive for continued study and practice. We are proud to carry on the tradition here in SaddleBrooke.
