Surviving the holidays after a loss

Cari Block

Whether you have lost a loved one or friend recently or if it has been many years, you probably find that the holidays are especially challenging to get through. The one-time event, Surviving the Holidays, on October 15 is sponsored by Community Church of SaddleBrooke (CCSB).

It has proved to be a great benefit to making the holiday journey less difficult after the death of a loved one.

This faith-based program will include a video with leading Christian psychologists and grief counselors, as well as folks who have been through their own grief experience. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion, meeting others in similar circumstances and you will leave with materials that will be helpful tools for your holiday experience. This event is free and will be held at the CCSB Parish House, 36768 S. Aaron Lane, Tucson, Arizona 85739.

Many who come to the Surviving the Holidays program also find that they would like to continue with the GriefShare program which is a 13-week program. It is led by lay persons who have experienced their own losses and includes videos by counseling professionals and small group discussions. GriefShare will begin Sunday, October 29 at 1:30 p.m. at the CCSB Parish House. There is a one-time fee of $20 to cover the cost of the workbook.

All those in our surrounding community who have lost a loved one or friend are invited to attend.

For information or to sign up contact Cari Block at 858-243-3747 or Benny Saiz at 520-818-1563.

There will also be an opportunity to sign up for Surviving the Holidays or GriefShare after the Sunday service at Community Church of SaddleBrooke starting October 1.

Community Church at SaddleBrooke is an all-denominational group of believers meeting at the DesertView Theater in SaddleBrooke every Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. All are welcome.
