Sunrise Rotary Club learns about geneology

SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary Club welcomed their own member, Patti Albaugh, to speak on May 26 on genealogy and the SaddleBrooke Genealogy Club (SGC). Patti brought her own family chart, which documents 12 generations of ancestors. “My Mayflower ancestors are down four more generations,” she said. Her chart showed obvious “brick walls,” those ancestors who couldn’t be found or identified, as well as military participation color coded by which war they supported by assistance or battlefield experience. She gave pointers for resources to conduct one’s own family tree research.

The mission of the SaddleBrooke Genealogy Club is to promote the study of genealogy for all levels of experience. Informative meetings, specialized classes and fellowships are benefits of membership. When Patti was president of SGC, she began each meeting by reading humorous gravestone inscriptions such as, “Here lies William—a wonderful father, a great husband and a terrible electrician.” SGC has door prizes each meeting, social events and field trips. They meet the first Thursday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Coyote Room of the SaddleBrooke Clubhouse. Their website is www.sb-genealogy.org. If you are interested in attending a meeting or joining SGC, contact President Kerry Wolfe at 520-825-9136.
