Stephen Bellacqua wins Links Cup

Jim Tayburn

“Bella” usually means good or beautiful and aqua means “water” so I think Bellacqua signifies Steve is good at hitting golf balls over water. That was verified when on the first day of the two-day Links Cup Championship Steve had a birdie on SaddleBrooke hole no. 2. He went on from there to record a net 133 for the two days and become the fifth different winner of the Links Cup in the five years it’s been contested. Tom Herrmann received honors in the “pro” class, recording two 78’s for the low gross of 156. Jim Tayburn had the least number of putts at 61 for the two days, proving that there is some advantage to not hitting greens in regulation.

On April 6 players and spouses gathered at MountainView Clubhouse for a celebration dinner and presentation of the Links Cup to Stephen, with 37 people joining in the festivity. Although Alan Culley, last year’s winner, was reluctant to give up the Cup, we were able to wrestle it away from him and present it to Steve.
