Start ballroom dancing with fun and easy classes

Wanda Ross

Are you curious about ballroom dancing but don’t know which dances you might like to try? If so, join us for a new series of classes designed to introduce beginner dancers, or newcomers to dancing, to the most popular ballroom dances: Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba, Cha Cha and Swing. This series of dance lessons will be held on Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m. in the Mariposa Room at DesertView and began on March 6.

Each week’s class will focus on one of the dances and will teach two to three patterns for that dance. The following week another dance will be taught. During March and April, these classes are being taught by Silke Gsching. If you have questions, contact Silke at [email protected]. These sampler dance lessons will continue after April but with a different instructor.

Good news: no need to sign up in advance for these classes. Come when you wish (although you may want to mark the dates on your calendar so you are reminded). If you miss a session, you will have missed only one week and can continue with the lessons the following week.

If you come each week to these classes, after five weeks you will know the basic patterns of five ballroom dances so then you’ll be ready to attend one of the dinner dances offered by the SaddleBrooke Ballroom Dance Club. Dates for these dances vary from month to month so watch for articles in the paper or check out the website at www.sbballroomdance.com.

Also, you can join our casual Open Dance sessions on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in the Vermilion Room and on Sundays from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in the MountainView Ballroom. These are open to anyone who wants to practice what they have learned in lessons or simply dance.
