A smashing afternoon on the tennis courts

Debbie McGeehan

It was a very active afternoon on courts one through four with approximately 50 players comparing their tennis racquets with the new 2016 models. It was a perfect opportunity to hit lots of balls and get lots of tips from the tennis pros! What a great time to hit and mingle with the other members of our club.

We were fortunate to have Jake Martin, the Wilson Racquet Representative and Mike Gleason the Tennis Cabana Teaching Pro, spend the afternoon with us. They brought many 2016 racquets for us to demo along with strings, grips and footwear. Thank you to our STC tennis pros (TJ Duffy, Chris Madsen, Gene McGeehan, Pat Maurer, John Sochacki and Jim Ward) that brought their teaching baskets and worked our players over for 1½ hours. This made it fun and players received some great tips!

Rufus Renfrow (who stayed for the entire day to make sure things were put away and locked up) and Kent Naugle set up tables prior to the event. Their positive attitudes and efforts are appreciated! Thanks to four wonderful helpers who were Claudia Enea, Susi Fantin, Mo Schween and Kendall Thomas. They set up the drinks and snacks on the patio that were enjoyed by the hungry and thirsty players! We certainly have a great tennis club because of our dedicated volunteers—no arms need to be twisted!

I consider it a very successful event as 13 racquets were purchased. Raffle winners left with various tennis items including a nice Wilson tennis bag (Lucie Stevens) and another winner selected her choice of a new tennis racquet (Kathleen Wood)!

Mark your calendars for another tennis social in November where you can demo racquets and purchase tennis apparel from The Tennis Cabana!

Thanks to everyone who participated in this event and made it fun and successful!
