Before we close the diary on 2018, let’s remember some of the fun from December.

The days leading up to our Holly and Ivy Tournament were icy cold. But December 4 surprised us with blue skies and no wind! The two best balls of the foursome format was fun, even though I made my usual deposit into the pond on No. 2. After the round, we were serenaded by Christine Smith on flute and Venetia Lewis at the piano. Chef Dave rewarded us with a wonderful luncheon of game hens with mushroom sauce and asparagus topped rice. The red velvet cake dessert was a delight to the eye as well as the palate. A big thank you to Chef Dave and his staff for a wonderful meal.

If you have shied away from our monthly luncheons/meetings, please give them another try. The presentations are brief and awards are passed out with rapid fire precision. I was home by 2:15 p.m., with a one-hour frost delay.

Many of our past presidents were in attendance: Brenda Brown, Ann Chatham, Sandy Collins, Carolyn DiSanto, Deb Finn, Karen Haddock, Bobbie Manges, Marilyn Mitchell, Gail Plimpton, Geri Sandilands, Fay Steele, Karen Vander Jagt, Bevin Wagner, Kerry Wolfe and Nancy Wylie. They were acknowledged for their hard work along with President Venetia Lewis and her outgoing board.

The president’s gavel was passed to our 2019 president Sherry Fitzpatrick and she introduced the members of her board: Vice President Shellie Pierce, Secretary Maggie Falconer, Treasurer Kathy Minx, Special Tournaments Kathleen Houser, Tuesday Play Day Sandra Murry, Membership Connie Culley and Handicap Chair Karen Tulchinsky.

So many winners to acknowledge. In the Southern District Telegraph tournament: Red flight, Sally Drennen took home first place and Bonnie Westra was awarded second. In the Red/Yellow flight Deb Finn placed third, Reenie Romey second and Takeyo Eakin took home first. The overall winner was Geri Sandilands. The Cactus Classic, a three-day low net tournament finished on November 17 and our first place winner, Judy Melo, took possession of her beautifully carved saguaro trophy. Phyllis Sarrels received the award for Low Par Points. Am I the only one who didn’t know there was such a thing?

So many to thank. Troy Jewkes, our interim golf director has been exceedingly helpful to our members. He now offers group lessons in chipping, putting, bunker play, etc. and was given a gift from the members. His stewardship of our courses has given us outstanding courses to play. And, when you see her, please thank Molly Fullerton for all her work behind the scenes, making our playdays run smoothly.

Molly Fullerton told us that we had nearly a full field for our Holly and Ivy Tournament and she has issued a challenge: let’s fill the field more often. It’s nice to have the morning tee times to ourselves.

Ok, it’s a wrap. See you next month.
