The first of many SaddleBrooke Community Outreach scholarship awards was made on May 14 to students at Ray High School in Kearny. Vice President of Education Steve Groth made the presentation to three outstanding students: Brittany Paton will be studying nursing at Northern Arizona University, Derek Pacheco will study mechanical engineering on the same campus and Sidney Chenoweth will pursue nursing at Arizona State University.

Derek and Sidney were co-valedictorians with straight A averages. Derek is an Eagle Scout and President of the National Honor Society. Sidney also was a straight A student and Senior Class President. All three received the annual award of $1500 per year, renewable for four years based on their grades.

The Education Committee addresses the mission statement of SBCO by ensuring that students have better school attendance and higher scholastic achievement. It is an exciting and positive way to encourage our local students to continue with their education; they are our future.
