SB Lady Niners swing into fall

Barbara Johnson

The SaddleBrooke Lady Niners wound up their summer activities in style. First up was our Ace of the Month competition on August 5. Ann Irwin was the winner for Low Gross, while Olga Lawrence won Low Net. Congratulations, ladies! August 12 brought an afternoon tee time, which was made much more pleasant by having our annual Bubba Day. For this event we could all Drive Like a Pro, with a little help from our own pros. We played from their first shots so that it felt more like playing all par 3s. Afterwards was a special Happy Hour in the Roadrunner Grill with chips, salsa and margarita specials. Even though Mother Nature tried to deter everyone with monsoon threats, several brave ladies persevered, which was a good idea since the payouts were doubled for this event. Our fearless winner was Hedy Gryszan. Congrats, Hedy!

While some of our ladies played in Bubba Day, we had several of our members who played in the Mixed Team Summer Classic held on August 12 and 13. For this two day event teams were formed from both ladies’ leagues (9ers and 18ers), as well as the men’s leagues. Some hearty souls just can’t seem to get in enough golf!

With September and fall coming, we can look forward to even more fun activities. September 23 will bring golf, brunch and our General Meeting. This is a special meeting because we will be presenting the slate of officers for 2015 as well as welcoming a member of the Board for the Tucson Girls’ Junior Golf. At this time we will be presenting her with a check from the proceeds from our Invitational in April. We will also have a presentation on the new format we will be using for our President’s Cup Tournament. Promises to be a busy day!

After the courses reopen after overseeding, we are looking forward to our annual Sputters’ Tournament. This is a real favorite to our ladies because each Niner will have a Sputter to do all the putting for her. You certainly can’t beat that! We look forward to a pleasant day of golf, lunch and camaraderie as we always do.
