Dr. Sandy McNabb, recently returned from seven years of living in Egypt including the time of Egypt’s January 25, 2011 revolution, was the featured guest speaker at the recent SaddleBrooke Republican Club’s May meeting. Dr. McNabb held her audience spellbound by her vast and diverse knowledge surrounding the rise of ISIS and the potential threat of terrorism connected with the ascent of this alarming group.

Dr. McNabb’s presentation dealt with key issues:

* What are the origins of ISIS and how is ISIS related to Al Qaeda?

* What are their objectives and why are they using such savagery?

* Why are young Muslims joining ISIS; what countries are they coming from; what are the recruitment tactics?

* Why are the neighboring Muslim countries (Saudi Arabia, Jordon, Egypt and Turkey) not fighting ISIS themselves?

* What options can the U.S. and the West use to combat ISIS?

The audience responded with follow-up questions after the very informative presentation.

Dr. McNabb has a career in International technology, including vice president at T-Mobile International; IT Director for AT&T United Kingdom; Director of R&D for Lucent Technologies for the EMEA region and professor at Nile University. She lived in England, Belgium and Germany for 13 years and in Egypt for seven years. After 20 years living outside the United States when asked “Why Tucson?” she said she chose Tucson because “it had the same climate as Egypt and I fell in love with SaddleBrooke after coming over the hill.”

Sheron Jones, Department President of the Tucson Chapter of the American Gold Star Mothers Inc. shared the organization’s goal of laying wreaths on the graves of our veterans in honor of their sacrifice and service. Information on how you can be involved in their effort is found at the website: americangoldstarmothersofarizona.org.

Police officers Charley Foley and Bradley Clark founded Flags for the Flagless after repeatedly seeing un-used flag poles throughout Tucson. They shared with those present that their goal is to “refurbish and fly the American Flag on every flagpole that has been forgotten.” Their mission is to bring patriotism and pride to every community.
