On February 23, a Quilt of Valor was awarded to Sergeant Rae Kennedy, a Vietnam-era Marine and recipient of two Purple Hearts, at the home of Teri and Dave Caplener by Jennifer Wilson, Quilt of Valor Arizona State Coordinator, and Rae was most appreciative.

The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is “to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.” Quilts are made by volunteers and donated to the organization. Anyone can make a quilt and anyone can nominate a deserving person to receive one by visiting the website: qovf.org. Since its inception in 2003, the Foundation has awarded over 153,000 quilts.

Contributors to this quilt from the pattern Hero’s Tribute by Liz Porter were Teri Caplener, Doris Diertele, Penny Fullenkamp, Melanie Karpowicz, Judy Mattson, Reva Muir, Jeanne Ragan, Ann Richards, Lynn Simon and Ann Steinsvaag. All are members of the SaddleBrooke Friday Quilters. A complementary pillowcase in which to store the quilt was included.
