SaddleBrooke One golf program hosts Girls Junior Golf

Barbara Johnson

Our golfers and course staff have enjoyed a busy summer and, thanks to our Pro Bernie Eaton, we had a special treat in August. Bernie, who has been named 2016 Southern Chapter Professional of the Year, is known for his innovative and creative fun programs which have enhanced our golf program for years (Beginner’s Program, Wine and Nine Program and Crazy Tournaments).

This time he went even farther by inviting the LPGA Junior Girls Golf participants to a golf clinic here on the SaddleBrooke Course. There were 25 girls between the ages of 7 and 17 who came and had a wonderful time. The girls were grouped both by age and golfing experience and it was a clinic for most of them, while the older girls got to play nine holes of golf.

The clinics, run by Bernie Eaton and Troy Jewkes, were full shot (driving range), chipping, pitching and putting. They also try to cover either a rule or some etiquette point, so Troy did a little rules session about unplayable lies. Lunch in the Agave Lounge followed and it truly felt like a Mega Granddaughter Day seeing all those enthusiastic young ladies having a great time. We truly thank Bernie for setting this all up and it was such a success that the SaddleBrooke Lady Niners are looking at next year’s schedule to see when we can invite the players to come play nine holes with us on a league day!
