SaddleBrooke Dems get climate change facts

Tim Koch

At their January meeting, the SaddleBrooke Dems welcomed Mike Carran of the SaddleBrooke Citizens’ Climate Lobby, a non-partisan local affiliate of the international Citizens’ Climate Lobby, a ‘grassroots’ environmental group. Mike began his presentation with the succinct and fervent message: Climate change is here and climate change is now. Mike said that he used to be concerned that change would affect his grandchildren; then, he said, he worried that it would affect his children. Now, he emphasized, he’s deeply concerned about climate change’s impact on our senior generation.

The Citizens’ Climate Lobby has developed a clear plan to reduce carbon emissions and our own individual carbon footprint. For further information the SBCCL meets every second Saturday of even-numbered months at 10:00 a.m. in the Sonoran Room. You can also find them online at www.citizensclimatelobby.com.

In addition to Mike’s informative talk and power-point presentation, the club welcomed Kiana Sears, a candidate for the Arizona Corporation Commission, an organization she explained she knows from the inside out. The daughter of a disabled Vietnam veteran, and the mother of two grown daughters, Kiana believes in serving others. She lives that belief by currently serving on the Mesa City school board.

Club chair, Hollace Lyon, highlighted numerous upcoming events.
