The SaddleBrooke Cyclemasters is a cycling club that really cares about their members. In fact, the bicycle is just the vehicle that gets us to our real purpose—spending time with fellow members.

On Thursday, June 9 at 5:30 p.m. some 50 members of the club formed to celebrate the life of Dennis Peterson. Dennis was a 17-year member of the club. He participated in international club rides in New Zealand, Ireland and Italy. He was a regular participant in the Southern Arizona Ride as well as the regular club rides in Tucson. Dennis was a 21-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a real family man and an inspiration to all of us. He will be sorely missed.

We celebrated Dennis’ life with a Ride of Silence. Members were asked to meet at the HOA1 Clubhouse, form a group of single file cyclists, and ride in silence around Ridgeview Boulevard, about a three mile trek. During that time participants were asked to remember the good times we shared with Dennis and do so in perfect silence. Those not capable or wishing not to ride their bike participated by following along in their golf cart.

The admiration for Dennis was quite evident by the great turnout we had on a June afternoon in 100-degree heat. It’s just another example of the quality of people we have in SaddleBrooke and why we should be so proud of whom we are.
