SBCO 20th Birthday celebration

Nan Nasser

On Tuesday, April 18 the MountainView Ballroom was filled with friends and members of SaddleBrooke Community Outreach (SBCO), ready to celebrate 20 years of services that provide opportunities for kids to succeed in a specific geographic area.

Tables were decorated with black cloths, silver and gold balloons and stars. Hot appetizers were available and a beautiful cake commemorating the occasion was ready for the guests. There were many displays highlighting our programs that provide clothing, offer educational programs and show support of the Tri Community Food Bank. A display of all the tee-shirts from past Walkathons was a special remembrance of so many years and miles during which our friends have supported us.

The new slate of officers was officially elected to begin their term for the years 2017/2018. Members with many years of service were recognized, a bit of history was shared with all, and guest speakers spoke of the merits of SBCO in the fields of education and nutrition.

SBCO recognized Bud and Karen Stott as the volunteers of the year. This duo has been involved in the organization since 1998; they have worked with Kids’ Closet, food drives, Teen Closet and wherever they saw a need. In addition, Marvin Rose was honored as the sponsor of the year. He is the owner of the Minit Mart business in our commercial center and wanted to donate to a local organization. In conversations with SBCO President Joan Roberts he agreed to make a significant monthly monetary donation to us, aimed specifically at educational needs.

The celebration concluded with the awarding of raffle prizes and the opportunity to socialize with one another.
