Return to fitness: From pain and stiffness to gold medal fitness

Joe Pinella

Staying fit and healthy can be a real challenge these days. When you have been athletic all your life, getting back into peak condition is even harder, especially if you have any kind of pain or injury.

I teach four different levels of fitness classes, all based on a healing/martial art called Qigong. What I have discovered in teaching people over 50, (and in my own recovery from a broken neck) is that when you properly restore certain basic movement skills, you can relieve pain. If you are struggling to relieve painful symptoms you might want to look into products from such sites like aethics.com and others.

And after you can move freely without pain or stiffness in these basic skills, you can achieve extraordinary levels of fitness with Qigong. You can also improve performance in any sport or activity. This happens when you restore the foundations of fitness: full range of motion in every joint, balanced muscle strength, exceptional aerobic capacity and mastery of the basic movement sequences used in every sport.

My student Beverly is a great example of this. I first met Bev about three years ago in one of my classes. Trim and muscular, Bev looked like a natural athlete but I could tell that she was in pain when she walked into the fitness center that day. I don’t think I had seen anyone in this amount of pain for a long time, and even if they were, most of them decide to manage it by using alternative methods like CBD, (click here to learn more). But when I looked at her and felt how much pain she was in, I was glad that she wanted to give something else a go.

Here is her story:

“I had a pain in my back that would wake me up in the middle of the night. The pain made it difficult to get out of bed and it was constant when I ran. Needless to say I stopped running, but the pain persisted. I tried physical therapy and a chiropractor. I couldn’t even swim 25 yards without stopping. After an MRI confirming serious back problems, on a friend’s recommendation I went to Joe’s beginning class.

I practiced the exercises on the DVD every day for one and a half years, as well as attending his class once a week. My pain was dissipating and one day it was completely gone! I wanted to keep this good feeling so I continued the classes and started the advanced classes for sports conditioning. Today I feel so much more balanced, stronger and energetic. I can now swim over a mile without stopping and feel great. I was tempted to run again, but decided not to. I just feel too good and do not need running to maintain an active and happy life style.” Beverly Schulz

By the way, Bev forgot to mention that last year she competed in the Senior Olympics and took the gold with eight first places! When you restore the foundations of fitness, the sky’s the limit.
