Al Mollenkopf recently spoke to the SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary about the newly formed SaddleBrooke Western Heritage Preservation Club. Al may have grown up in Michigan but his childhood fixation with Tom Mix movies started his interest in all things western. When he moved to SaddleBrooke a few years ago he started a cowboy poetry gathering that ran for three years. The Western Heritage Preservation Club was chartered this year, 2016, with the following mission statement: “To promote and preserve the heritage of the old West through story, cowboy poetry and western music. Members will be encouraged to participate and perform with story readings, poetry recitation and musical offerings that represent the culture of the old West. Resource persons will be invited to meetings from time to time to enhance the experience.”

Club officials are Chas Shafer, president; Al Mollenkopf, vice president; Jennifer Shafer, treasurer and Midge Mollenkopf, secretary. The club dues are $10 per year per household and the club is open to all SaddleBrooke residents, HOA 1, 2 and the Ranch. The plan is to meet monthly at the Mesquite Grill in the evening. There is a monthly newsletter.

Al closed his presentation with a recitation of some cowboy poetry.

SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary meets 8:00 a.m. Thursday mornings at the MountainView Country Club. We are a group of friendly, service-minded individuals who want to make a difference in our community. For more information, contact President Tim Johnston at 520-219-1290.
