News from the Institute for Judaic services and studies

Yvette Sabulsky

Our next Shabbat service is January 25, 7:00 p.m. in the SaddleBrooke One Activity Center. (Street parking outside the Activity Center is prohibited. Park at the SaddleBrooke One Bocce Court. Thank you.)

Services are led by Rabbi Sandy Seltzer and Cantorial Soloist Sarah Bollt, accompanied by Chris Tackett. Sharing Shabbat is a wonderful way to welcome the peace of Shabbat as a community.

Oneg Shabbat

Our Oneg Shabbat will be sponsored by Linda and Don Merritt and Sandy and Jack Herman in memory of their parents, Fred and Annette Mozin.

If you are interested in sponsoring an Oneg Shabbat, contact Joan Elder, [email protected] or 825-0190.

Shabbat Dinner

Join us for an optional Shabbat dinner at 5:00 p.m. in MVCC East Room prior to Shabbat services. It’s a wonderful way to stay connected with our congregation. Contact Ellie Adelman to make a reservation at [email protected] or call 818-3064.

Rabbi’s Classes

Rabbi Seltzer will be holding classes January 31, February 7 and 14 at the MVCC Ballroom West/Center at 7:00 p.m.

Rabbi Seltzer will discuss “Probing the Biblical Book of Judges.” A three-session inquiry into the exploits of memorable personalities described in a text revered by Jews and Christians alike whose stories reflect a chaotic world where we are told, “In those days there was no king in Israel and each man did as he pleased.” Judges 21:25.

Session 1, Thursday, January 31: Samson and Delilah – A tale of Intrigue, Seduction and Violence.

Session 2, February 7: Jephthah and His Daughter – The Tragic Tale of a Foolish Father and An Overly Obedient Child.

Session 3, February 14: Deborah and Jael, Heroic Warriors of Israel.
