News from the Institute

The Institute for Judaic Services and Studies is proud to sponsor for the 15th consecutive year High Holy Day services in SaddleBrooke.

Leading services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are Rabbi Sanford Seltzer and Cantorial Soloist Sarah Boltt, with accompanist Carolyn Cochran. Members of the community also participate in services through readings, aliyot, blowing of the shofar and many other opportunities.

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services will all be held in the West Ballroom of the MountainView Country Club.

The schedule of High Holiday Services is as follows:

Rosh Hashanah (New Year)

Erev Rosh Hashanah – Wednesday, September 20, at 7:00 p.m.

Rosh Hashanah – Thursday and Friday, September 21 and 22, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)

Kol Nidre – Friday evening, September 29, at 7:00 p.m.

Yom Kippur – Saturday, September 30

Morning service – beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Torah Study/Discussion with Rabbi Seltzer – 3:00 p.m.

Afternoon service (including Yizkor) – 4:00 p.m.

The Afternoon Service will conclude with the blowing of the shofar, the Havdalah service to conclude the Sabbath, and light refreshments to break the fast.

The Book of Remembrance will again provide the opportunity to remember loved ones and friends and will be available for the Yizkor service. Details on participation in the Book of Remembrance have been sent to the community, and Elaine and Barry Soloway are available to answer any questions at 520-465-2532 or [email protected].

The community is also encouraged to participate during the High Holidays in Project Isaiah and fulfill the mitzvah (commandment) of performing righteous during this period. Contributions of food goods and donations are being requested in support of the food bank of IMPACT of Southern Arizona, serving several hundred families. Bags for food collection will be available on Rosh Hashanah and may be returned to any service.

Members are reminded to consider their membership dues during the period of the High Holidays.
