The MPMGA Club champ for 2017 is Bob Elder

Bob Edelblut

The MPMGA played its Club Championship this year on November 8 and 9. On day one the competition took place at The Preserve Golf Club and on day two it shifted to the MountainView Golf Club. This year the field was 76 players and they were assigned to a flight based primarily on their handicap and their tee selection. Special Event Director David Cohen added a new twist to the format by adding a Championship Flight and declaring that only those players choosing to play in that flight would be eligible to win the championship. Not to worry, 13 hardy souls made the plunge and for that commitment they had the pleasure of playing from tees on both courses that lengthened their yardage. Don’t forget that the score that counts when determining the overall champion and all flight winners is the lowest gross score. Prizes, however, were awarded to first and second place finishers, gross and net, in each flight and 14 individuals won closest to the pin competitions.

Unlike last year the weather was perfect both days! At the Preserve on day one eight players shot scores in the 70s and Brian Gallup was medalist with a 76.The following day at MountainView six players recorded scores in the 70s and Bob Eder recorded the lowest score with a 75. Great golf, gentlemen! Okay, it is time for the good stuff!

Bob Eder with rounds of 77 and 75 (152) won his first Club Championship besting last year’s winner Grant Farquhar and Bruce Fink by five and six strokes respectively. Great run, gentlemen! Bob has bronzed his trusty putter that helped him birdie three of the last six holes and secure the championship. Good story!

The other first place finishers either gross or net in each flight are Flight 1 low net Tim Ward; Flight 2 low gross Don Erickson and low net Brian Gallup; Flight 3 low gross Dennis Marchand and low net Mike Miller; Flight 4 low gross Bob Edelblut and low net Larry Meyer; Flight 5 low gross Dan Schroeder and low net John Cobb; Flight 6 low gross Fred Kjar and low net Dennie Wilbour; Flight 7 low gross Len Raab and low net Bob Breitenfeld. Amazing play, gentlemen!
