When I was a little girl I remember my parents going to the cemetery on Memorial Day weekend to place flowers on the graves of our loved ones, some of whom had served our country in World War I and World War II. Previously, this holiday was called Decoration Day since the graves were decorated. Historians are unsure when this practice began – some say before the Civil War and others say after the Civil War. So today we honor those who have died in military service.

On Monday, May 29 the MountainView Lady Putters donned their best red, white and blue ensembles in honor of our military veterans who gave the greatest sacrifice for our country. Outfits included everything from a fascinator with an Uncle Sam hat on it to striped socks. This is MVLP’s way of showing our appreciation and support for the service provided by the brave men and women of our military past, present and future. This weekend when you hear a Sousa March such as Stars and Stripes Forever, remember the brave men and women are who keeping our shores safe.
