MountainView Bridge Club news

We may have heard the popular Halloween chant, “trick or treat.”

For bridge players, getting a trick is a good thing and our club will offer a special treat on Tuesday, December 12: Holiday Party at the Roadrunner Grill. Circle that date.

The MountainView Bridge Club will be meeting at a different location during sessions in November. Check our website at www.bridgewebs.com/mountainview. We may be at The Bridge Center of Greater Tucson, 16150 N. Oracle Road next to Claire’s Café. The Tuesday and Friday games will start at 1:00 p.m. as usual. If you need a partner, contact Jean Reitan at [email protected] or phone 445-8225.

Again, players who often won master points for October were Bob Brussel, the Mayfields, Dick Quigg, Donna DePesa with Steve Maltzman, Bob Murray and Eric Vonderheid. Added to that list with more than two wins were Jane Pendley and Sue Hagerty.

Many SaddleBrooke players will be going to the Sectional tournament in Tucson November 16 through 19. Good luck.

More advice from experts: Marty Bergen says, “Never side with an opponent against your partner. Either support your partner or say nothing.” Lynn Berg, in advice on “Where did we go wrong?” says, “A bad score may result from a revoke, lead out of turn, which led to an unusually bad result. That’s going to happen to almost everyone, but it’s lack of focus if it happens often.” Karen Walker says, “When describing a professional team to compete in a world championship, partners recognized which decisions were best left to partner.”

Duplicate Bridge is a competitive game and we all want to do well. It’s improper to congratulate our partner when we defeat the opponent. Wait until you leave the table. Then you can say, “Yippee” or give a high-five. Remember, you may lose a hand, too.
