Summer is ending and it’s time to welcome autumn with its falling leaves, crisp mornings and returning players. Terry and Jim Coe are still away, I think. Jim hurt himself again in a nasty fall from his bicycle. Recover soon, Jim! I did not find anyone to feature this month, so we return to the old winners and percenters for the month of August. We had nine games, averaging about 11 tables. There were no big wins (70% or better) but quite a few of our members qualified for the National American Pairs. Congratulations to all of you qualifiers—you should be hearing from the ACBL about the upcoming competitions. As for the winners during August, the Lessers, the Afdahls, the Mayfields and Donna DePesa/Steve Maltzman were big winners all month with more wins than I care to count. Some of the other winners included Bob Stotts/Trudie Weber-Penta and Peter Godfrey/Bob Murray, Peter Godfrey/Bob Saner, Cam Mette/Mike Cuno, Bob Stotts/Ed Anderson, Jane Pendley/Cindy Shoemaker, James Young/Jean Reitan, Midge Miller/Betty Edwards, Betty Meyer/Bob Murray, Martha Winn/Linda Ascher, Marian Rogge/Michelle Werley, Bob Murray/Eric Vonderheid, Karen Swanberg/Aaron Carnes, Joy Rieckers/Karen Swanberg, Aaron Carnes/Adair Karlin, Richard Quigg/Tom Baker, Marie Heald/Barbara Feeley and Betty Meyer/Sue Bush. It is noteworthy that of the two STaC games, there were many more C players attending (12 vs. four or five usually), and two C players – Bob Murray and Eric Vonderheid – won N/S across the board on August 23. Then, on August 26, two more C players – Dick Quigg and Tom Baker – won E/W across the board. Nicely done people! See you all at the tables.
