“Let’s Swim” the water is great

The SaddleBrooke Swim Club has always welcomed swimmers of all abilities and skill levels but, for many SaddleBrooke residents, the idea of jumping into the pool beside one of the state championship swimmers was intimidating. To eliminate this fear, the club decided to offer the Let’s Swim program in July to provide an opportunity for swimmers to get back to swimming with other returning swimmers. Thirty new participants got back into the water and were reminded that no matter what their level, swimming is fun and a great exercise! They also learned firsthand that the swim club is not just the competition team, but has swimmers of all levels. Swim Club Vice President Lyn Moreno said the most common remark heard on the deck was “I had forgotten how much I loved the water.” Here are a few of the new club member’s comments:

Glenda: “To all you wannabe swimmers! I am having a great time learning to swim properly with the swim club! Great coaches and friendly, encouraging swim partners.”

Wanda: “This provided much more than I expected. As a non-swimmer who likes to snorkel, I thought this would be good for me. I was so right. I learned techniques for multiple strokes from very patient coaches. More importantly, I now feel empowered that I can swim.”

Jan: “I really enjoy my time in the water. All the coaches have been terrific and I appreciate their time and dedication. This has been a very positive experience!”

Sandy: “I haven’t done any actual swimming since high school and figured I was a lost cause. It is intimidating to get in a pool with real swimmers when your own skills are very lacking. This program gave me the opportunity to refresh my long lost skills and learn new ones. Even after finishing only the first class (and being a little stiff) I figured this would be a great exercise for me.”

Bill: “The swim club has been a wonderful experience. Every day is both a great workout and a great learning experience. Coaches are encouraging and good humored. You’re a little better swimmer and a little stronger every day! Where else can you say that?”

The swim club is planning another Let’s Swim program beginning the second week of October; however, anyone is welcome to join the club members in the water at any time.
