Learning to ballroom dance is fun and free

Wanda Ross

The SaddleBrooke Ballroom Dance Club is pleased to announce lots of interest in our dance classes. We offer a variety of ballroom dance classes that are proving to be quite popular. They certainly enhance our dancing skills and this makes dancing more fun. Plus, dancing is one of the best activities for maintaining good health. Dance classes are free so join the Ballroom Dance Club and get started. Check us out at www.sbballroomdance.com.

Our classes are taught by professional-level dance instructors. In October, over 20 club members learned to waltz with instructor Phil Doyle. We already have 38 people signed up for our East Coast Swing class in November taught by Claudia Booth and Barry and Linda Moore. What a fun dance this is. It is a versatile dance and very well suited for the Sock Hops.

Sign up now for the December class, which is Night Club Two Step with Brian Hand and Sheila Honey. It’s a slow dance that works with a wide variety of music. Class dates are December 5, 12, 19 and 26. For questions and to sign up, contact Brian at [email protected]. Even if you cannot attend every class, they may let you participate. Ask Brian if that will work for this class. Don’t have a dance partner? That’s okay. Participants change partners during the classes so that everyone gets to dance.

Plan now for the January class, which is American Foxtrot with instructors Dave Poferl and Mary Borkovec. This is a smooth dance that has the same beat as the Cowboy Two Step. Class dates are January 9, 16, 23 and 30. For questions and to sign up, contact Dave at [email protected].

Future dance classes include the Viennese Waltz with Phil and Anne Doyle in February, the Rumba with Ann and Tom Kurtz in March, the West Coast Swing with Brian Hand and Sheila Honey in April and the Bachata with Vivian Herman and Ron Reich in April.

All of these dance lessons are held on Wednesdays from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Mariposa Room at the DesertView Clubhouse. If that is not a convenient time for you, stand by as the SaddleBrooke Ballroom Dance Club is planning additional dance lessons that will be held during the day.

Review sessions are on Saturdays from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at SaddleBrooke Vermilion Room. This is a good time to practice what you were taught in a lesson or to practice any ballroom dancing. Be happy: dance!
