Lady Niners donate to local young golfers

Barbara Johnson

Every year the SaddleBrooke Lady Niners send a donation to LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Tucson. We hold our Invitational on even-numbered years, so we can increase this donation because we add in our profits from the event. At our General Meeting and Brunch on June 14, it was our pleasure to welcome some very special guests – Patsy Lee (Girls Junior Golf Board member), young players Maya (14) and Gina (11) Horner and their mother Marina Moretti.

Being a retirement community (with many grandmothers in the group), it was delightful to hear the two girls talk about their experiences with Girls Junior Golf and the influence it has had on their lives. Patsy followed up with an explanation to us about all the things the organization does for the young ladies. Their speeches made such a positive impression that after our presentation of a check for $500 to their organization, our Pro Bernie Eaton made the announcement that he would organize an event with the young ladies here in SaddleBrooke. As you can imagine, the idea was tremendously well received by all the ladies. We look forward to continuing (and expanding upon) our relationship with Girls Junior Golf for many years to come!
