Knit Wits news

Carol Chiarello

As the weather heats up, our ladies of Knit Wits keep their cool by knitting many different types of articles. For example, in the last calendar year, we have delivered nearly 500 sets of knitted knockers, the prostheses we deliver to a yarn shop in Tempe for distribution across Arizona. The women appreciate having soft inserts after a mastectomy.

Barb, our club co-leader and former yarn shop owner, has a wealth of knowledge to share and we are eager to learn new tips and techniques. Taking advantage of our sunny weather, Barb took her blocking tools outside and we had a lesson in finishing our projects to give a polished look. The ladies learned about blocking boards, sewing boards with measurements and blocking pins to help make their handmade items look soft and even.

We had a lunch outing at Carlota’s. Nearly 20 women enjoyed not cooking on this day. We typically plan lunch out of the compound at least quarterly. Many of the ladies also gather for lunch after Wednesday meetings.

Knit Wits meet each Wednesday morning at the SaddleBrooke One Arts and Crafts Center, in Room 4, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Feel free to stop by and see what we are creating; new members are always welcome.
