Jewish Friendship Group news – December 2014

Marilyn Anthony

The JFG will be holding its annual Chanukah Party on December 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the Vistas Dining Room at HOA1. The traditional menu of brisket, chicken and latkes will be served. Salmon is a new option. Once again there will be a toy drive as JFG members continue to bring smiles to the children hospitalized at the Diamond Children’s Center. We ask that you bring stuffed animals, toys, books, or arts and crafts for the children. Further details of the Chanukah Party will be in the JFG e-blasts. This is one of the most fun and best attended get-togethers of the year so be sure to mark the date on your calendar and make your reservation by contacting Laurie Colen at [email protected].

The December meeting of the co-ed book club discussed Invisible City by Julie Dahl, a murder mystery set in the Borough Park district of NYC. The discussion was mirrored by a recent Canadian newspaper article dealing with the exact topic of this specific area of NY with its own internal policing and secrets. Our discussions continue to be lively, open, respectful, and insightful. Each meeting gives us an opportunity to grow a little in both understanding our Jewish roots and appreciating literature.

The book for January 9 is A. B. Yehoshua’s A Woman in Jerusalem and will take place at the home of Rhoda Kaplan. The time of the meeting is still under discussion but will be made known to all as soon as decided. Please RSVP to Rhoda by January 5 by email [email protected].

New members wishing to attend upcoming book club meetings should call Sandy Epstein at 612-636-3333 for more information. Meetings are from October through May on the second Thursday of the month. We welcome new readers–the more opinions the better!

The November women’s coffee hosted by Zelda Aaronson and Marilyn Greenberg at Zelda’s lovely home was delightful. It was SaddleBrooke’s first chilly day this fall but not for this group. We welcomed new friends and caught up on the lives/family/adventures of the snowbirds Due to the holidays and everyone’s busy schedules the next coffee will be held on January 9 hosted by Sue Daniels and Harriet Rosenberg. Due to the cold weather, attendance will be limited to the first 25 ladies who reply.

Please RSVP by January 2 to Harriet at 529-6533 or email [email protected].
