Israel’s water innovations leave audience thirsty for more

The SaddleBrooke Israel Friendship Club (SIFC) held its last meeting of this winter season on March 6. Professor Sharon Megdal, Director of the University Arizona Water Resource Research Center (WRRC), discussed Arizona’s water shortage and its connection to innovations in Israel. Dr. Megdal made a major contribution to the PBS film Beyond the Mirage, which reveals the challenges facing desert cities in Arizona, California and Nevada. Dr. Megdal intrigued the group with new technologies developed in Israel that offer potential solutions to our water crisis.

This meeting followed a thought-provoking presentation held on February 20 in which David L. Graizbord, Associate Professor of Judaic Studies at the University of Arizona, offered a fascinating historical and thematic overview of the Arab-Israeli conflict. The enthusiastic response to his insights led Dr. Graizbord to agree to update the subject in another talk next season.

In each of the 2016-17 SIFC meetings, attendees experienced the anticipation of a SaddleBrooke trip to Israel in October of 2018, which is now in the planning stages. More details will be forthcoming when the club reconvenes in the fall. SIFC is open to SaddleBrooke residents of all faiths and political orientations, so we look forward to your participation in another outstanding series of talks which will resume after the summer break.
