Improving Oracle Trails

Elisabeth Wheeler

Nineteen intrepid SaddleBrooke hikers braved a chilly morning to improve trails in Oracle State Park. A special effort was made to clear the trails of sticker bushes and obstacles for runners participating in the upcoming Oracle Rumble to benefit the Arizona National Scenic Trail. Lots of excellent work was accomplished in three hours, with one group working an additional half hour. Volunteers were happy to enjoy Janis Rechhemmer’s famous banana bread and other treats after working.

SaddleBrooke hikers are always willing to improve sections of the Oracle Passage of the Arizona National Scenic Trail. On Wednesday, February 21, volunteers will work to clear a scenic re-route away from a trail paralleling a busy road. Volunteers are welcome to join the SaddleBrooke Hiking Club volunteers in this satisfying effort.

Volunteers will depart MountainView parking lot 7:30 a.m. and return to SaddleBrooke by noon. To participate call or email Elisabeth Wheeler 520-818-1547, [email protected], or Ray Peale 520-818-6285 [email protected].
