The ILR is proud to have Ann Kuperberg as a faculty member. Ann was born in Brooklyn, New York and spent her youth in the Irvington, New Jersey area. After graduating from high school she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Hunter College in New York City. She then earned a Master’s degree at Rutgers University with a specialty in Remedial Reading. Ann taught elementary school, second to sixth graders, for 22 years in various states including New York, Indiana, New Jersey and Michigan. Her teaching excellence earned her a Teacher of the Year award and a listing in Who’s Who in Education.

Ann and her husband Lou moved to SaddleBrooke in 1996. They took a summer vacation the following year and visited Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. This experience peaked her interest in American History which resulted in writing a poem about Jefferson. Ann’s poem was published in a book called Erete’s Bloom—Ode to Thomas Jefferson. Joel Waldstreicher (the ILR founder), discovered the poem and asked Ann to do more research on the American Revolution and teach classes for the ILR. The rest is history. Her continued research resulted in teaching the Highlights of the American Revolution and Our Founding Fathers for the ILR. Other interests resulted in a course entitled The Culture and Religions of China. She has also made numerous presentations to local groups about Jews of China.

Ann has published many articles in our local newspapers and the Desert Leaf Magazine. In her spare time she enjoys reading, playing duplicate bridge, traveling, singing and visiting with her four grandchildren. We are fortunate to have Ann as an ILR instructor. Rumor has it that she is working on a new course about Powerful Women in History. For more information about the ILR go to www.sbilr.org.
