How Tai Chi builds health and vitality

Carol Emerson

Studies have shown that there are many health benefits from practicing Tai Chi. These may include:

Improved functional balance and physical performance

Reduced frequency of falls and risk of falling

Lowered blood pressure

Improved mental and physical wellbeing

Improved cardiovascular and respiratory function

Improved sleep quality

Increased happiness (really)

Enhanced overall health

Pain reduction

Improvement in arthritis symptoms

One of the most significant benefits to older adults is that a consistent Tai Chi practice can help reduce the risk of falling. When you do Tai Chi, your body responds to gentle demands on your posture’s stability. Over time this improves strength, postural control and balance. Preventing falls is key to longevity because 20 to 30 percent of people who fall suffer moderate to severe injuries such as bruises, hip fractures and head traumas.

Another key benefit is the deep relaxation experienced during Tai Chi. Deep, slow, easy breathing brings more oxygen to all parts of the body – nourishing the cells and calming the mind. Most people experience this relaxation response when they practice and find that the hour class goes by quickly and leaves them feeling refreshed and renewed.

We hope you will join us and see for yourself. Here is the July schedule.
