Honor Flight Network update

Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing military veterans with honor and closure. The Honor Flight Network’s mission is to fly veterans to Washington DC to visit their memorials. First organized in 2005, Honor Flight is a national network with more than 135 hubs across the U.S. Honor Flight hubs are nonprofit organizations whose mission is to provide a trip of honor for veterans at no cost to them.

Tucson is one of more than 135 regional hubs in over 40 states working to honor our war veterans in this way. Priority is given to America’s survivors of World War II and any veterans with a terminal illness. Korean and Vietnam War veterans and all other veterans who served will follow on a chronological basis. The trip gives our veterans the opportunity to feel the impact of their service as well as our nation’s gratitude for their sacrifice.

The three-day trip from Tucson includes: round trip airfare to Washington, D.C.; hotel accommodations for two nights; breakfast, lunches and sit-down dinners; transportation and assistance to and from all venues; an Honor Flight polo shirt; and if necessary, wheelchairs for those needing them.

For those who are interested in participating, not flying as a veteran, one may become an Honor Flight volunteer; sponsor a trip for a veteran; accompany a veteran on his or her trip as a guardian; participate in send-off and return activities at the airport and help spread the word about Honor Flight.
