Genealogy Club update

Have you ever spent a lot of time working with a program that offered other researcher’s family tree only to find out they weren’t really relative? They may have just copied each other’s trees. At today’s meeting, Rondie Yancey, a Genealogy Club member, introduced attendees to a new and informative program called Evidentia. It is a very useful tool to help solve problems facing the genealogy community. Evidentia is a program that will work alongside other programs such as Family Tree Maker, RootsMagic or other programs used to record and compile information about one’s family. For example, if you have run into a mystery about a family member such as a person’s maiden name, Evidentia will take the sources and information entered and analyze them to help you solve your research challenges. This program can help you analyze evidence, form conclusions and keep this information within the same software. When working with most software genealogy programs the focus is on people and events. Evidentia takes this information and presents the evidence in one concise and organized format. Rondie walked those present through the templates of the program. They are written to take one step by step through the processes. There is a limited time free trial with this program. Visit Evidentia.com to become familiar with it. It may be a useful tool to help wade through the fascinating hobby of genealogy.

There will be no formal meetings or guest speakers for the summer months of June through August. Informal meetings will be held on the first Thursday of the month at the SaddleBrooke One Clubhouse in the Coyote Room at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend and knowledgeable members will be available to help with your research and answer questions. Normal meetings will resume on September 6 at the normal time and location.

The club’s current officers agreed to stay on for the upcoming 2018-2019 term. This slate of officers was approved by the members present. Officers are President Carol Tibor, Vice President Patty Burke, Secretary Christine Nelson, Treasurer Pat Rourke and Member at Large Hod Wells.

The raffle prize winners for this month were Margaret O’Brien and Buzz Bailey.
