Gary Jenkins spoke at SaddleBrooke Sunrise

Gary Haslett

Gary Jenkins, a former Secret Service officer, spoke to the SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary on March 24. Gary served six different presidents and was also a team leader protecting visiting dignitaries from other countries. He has a wealth of information about the operations of the Secret Service and the presidents he served, only some of which he can talk about.

Gary entertained the SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary members for over 30 minutes with humorous and enlightening stories about our presidents, including his early years with LBJ and Lady Bird at the Texas White House and of President Nixon trying to hit golf balls on the White House lawn.

He also emphasized the staggering amount of detail, advance planning and manpower it takes for a president to visit a foreign country. He said working with foreign countries planning visits was always a challenge because each country has their own way of protecting their leaders.

We are so fortunate here in SaddleBrooke to have so many people who have had such interesting and rewarding careers. SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary is always looking for people who may want to share their stories. If you would like to do so, contact Tony Ingle @ [email protected].
