Friends of SaddleBrooke Libraries

The SaddleBrooke Libraries – a valued community resource

Love to read, listen to audio books and watch DVDs? If so, circulation statistics at the three SaddleBrooke Libraries during the first half of 2015 show that you’re not alone. Total circulation was 33,626 items with June, usually one of the slower months at the libraries, the busiest month during the past five quarters. And paperback circulation was the highest since the first quarter of 2014.

Paperbacks are especially popular at the SaddleBrooke Library. It circulates more paperbacks than the La Cholla (at MountainView Clubhouse) and DesertView Libraries combined. Fiction accounts for approximately 76% of the circulation of cataloged items at the SaddleBrooke Library. At DesertView Library, DVDs represented 27% of its circulation during the second quarter of 2015. Circulation at the La Cholla Library, which is a self-serve facility, is steady at about 1,000 items per month.

Through the Libraries’ website, www.sblibraries.org, borrowers can access an online catalog that allows them to:

* See what they currently have checked out

* Renew books online

* Reserve any item in the library catalog

* Receive email alerts about overdue items, reserved items ready for pick-up and other notifications

* View their transaction history

Library users also are encouraged to recommend purchases for the SaddleBrooke Libraries.

All three SaddleBrooke Libraries are maintained and staffed by volunteers and all materials are loaned, free of charge, to any SaddleBrooke resident. All cataloged items at the Libraries are paid for by the Friends of SaddleBrooke Libraries (FSL). FSL raises funds through annual memberships, fundraising events and donations of materials and money. Any resident who would like to support our three community libraries is encouraged to visit the FSL website, www.friendssblib.org, to learn more.

Author luncheon November 20

Discover a new author with great critical reviews.

Come and meet thriller writer Becky Masterman at the Friends of SaddleBrooke Libraries’ next author luncheon to be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 20. As the former editor of a forensic medicine encyclopedia, Masterman brings a unique background to her mysteries. Largely unknown to the general public, she has received widespread praise from critics for her first mystery novel, Rage Against the Dying. And more rave reviews for her just published second thriller, Fear the Darkness. Both feature a fun and fearless 59-year-old retired FBI agent named Brigid Quinn.

Tickets are now on sale at the HOA 2 administration annex. A beautiful luncheon of chicken citrus salad will be served or you may choose a vegetarian option. Please remember that early purchasers get the choice tables.

If you have questions about this event, please contact the co-chairs of FSL Author Luncheons: Judy Kany at 520-818-1181, email [email protected] or Elaine Kienitz at 520-825-1560, [email protected].
