On Saturday, February 20 at approximately 1:00 p.m., Fred Kjar became the seventh MPMGA member to record a hole-in-one this year. Remarkable! The MountainView Golf Course was once again the scene of the happening but this time the thirteenth hole was the victim. Fred was playing in his normal Saturday competition and his playing partners were John Stevenson, Hank Malter and Bob Edelblut. From memory I think I may have said after his shot that we may now have a real chance to win at least one hole in today’s game. Fred was the last player to hit his shot on the hole and his best guess was that the distance was about 140 yards to the front pin location. He chose a six iron for the shot. Ironically his first instinct after hitting the shot was to pick up his tee, turn his back to the green and begin walking to his cart. John Stevenson quickly said, “Great shot” when he saw the ball land on the front of the green and Fred very quickly looked toward the green. Almost in unison everyone started yelling, “It’s going in the hole,” and seconds later it did. Fred was still not convinced. He knew the ball was hiding directly behind the flag. The expression on his face was priceless when he realized his ball was resting in the bottom of the cup. Congratulations once again for scoring your second hole-in-one.

Fred has lived in SaddleBrooke, Unit 49, for about six years and has been an active member in the Men’s Club most of that time. He admits to only playing the game of golf for some twenty years or so which most of us tend to doubt especially when he talks about all the rounds and courses he has played around the country. There were nineteen players playing in the game that Saturday and all enjoyed libation and fun loving chatter hosted by Fred at the Bistro after the round. By the way, his foursome did win that hole and once again, Fred—we thank you.
