A Flag Day and Flag Retirement ceremony was held at Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. The Oro Valley American Legion Post 132 Color Guard opened the program by presenting the American Flag followed by Norm Beasley and Jim Cox leading the audience in singing the Star Spangled Banner.

PER Larry Megahan narrated the history of all the flags that have flown over our country as lodge members presented each flag. The flag bearers were Ron Trudeau, Peggy Nelson, Joyce Abbott, Larry Valverde, Larry Wittenborn, Belinda Waller, Gunny Lindroth and Rick Peterson. PER Gloria Cisneros presented the story of America and its flag.

PER Doug Harpold presented the salute to veterans and introduced keynote speaker Ed Davis who was 2015 Legionnaire of the Year and 2016 Lodge Citizen of the Year. The Coyote Country Cloggers performed their lively rendition of Stormin’ Norman to pay tribute to veterans and active military. Norm Beasley sang, Proud to be an American to honor law enforcement officers and firefighters. The Cloggers concluded the ceremony with Patriotic Polka.

PER Sig Danielson thanked PER Jim Cox, Flag Day chairman, and those who contributed to the success of the program. The Oro Valley American Legion Post 132 retired service-worn American Flags with dignity and respect following the Flag Day ceremony.
