Faith in action

Nan Nasser

For the second year Mountain Shadows Presbyterian Church in Catalina put its faith into action on Sunday, February 21, 2016. What does that mean? People actively participated in a variety of programs that benefited our neighbors throughout our service area. Our mission statement calls us to live as disciples of Jesus Christ as we care for our community and our world. And care we did!

The morning began with a sendoff service to guide those willing to put their faith in action. Teams went to three homes in Catalina for general clean up and repair at those sites. One team, our choir, visited Brookdale Care Facility in Oracle to sing for (and with) residents. Back at the church a group of ladies completed sewing 63 pillowcases into dresses for youngsters in Africa. A team potted flowering plants for use by IMPACT, others created spring greeting cards to be used by Interfaith Community Services and some wrote letters to mission co-workers and homebound congregants. Toiletry bags were assembled for the homeless program at South Side Presbyterian Church and a welcome basket is being readied for a refugee family soon to be identified in Tucson.

The morning was completed with a service in the sanctuary, an opportunity to view the crafted items, to verbally share experiences and then to join in a simple lunch of sandwiches before heading home to smile about our adventures.
