Don’t Leave Your Pets in the Backyard

Stuart Watkins

Monday morning about 1:30 a.m., hearing a ruckus in our backyard area, I slipped on my shoes, grabbed a flashlight, and took out my pistol. Thinking this might have been coyotes attacking my neighbor’s dog, I wanted to find out what was going on.

Lighting up my neighbor’s backyard with my flashlight and seeing no problem, I went to our back fence. My flashlight caught the eyes of several large coyotes running back and forth.

Waking in the morning, I walked behind my fence, pistol at my side, and I saw what the ruckus was about. This time it was a deer, but it could have been your pet.

The purpose of this article is to warn all our neighbors to keep an eye on their cats or dogs if they let them out at night.
